Welcome to the home page of the Geelong Gliding Club
Welcome to the home page of the Geelong Gliding Club Inc.. Established in Victoria, in 1929, Geelong Gliding Club was the first gliding club in Australia. The club was formed as a voluntary non-profit organisation to make available the facilities for, and train interested members of the general public in, the sport of gliding.
Since that time it has operated at a number of sites culminating in the establishment of the soaring centre located at the Bacchus Marsh Airfield , currently shared with two other clubs. This sites offers a variety of soaring conditions including thermal, ridge and wave lift, while remaining within easy reach of Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat. As well the club operates camps for it’s members for extended periods at various sites around Victoria. The combined club operation at Bacchus Marsh is the largest in Australia with a total of eighteen club gliders and five tugs .
The club owns and operates it's own fleet of training and modern fibreglass dual and single seat gliders. Launching is provided by the club’s tugs, winch or by auto tow.
The club has a number of large hangars available for it’s aircraft ensuring ready availability of aircraft for the use of it’s members. Bunkhouse accommodation and catering facilities are also located on site for the use of all the resident club’s members.
You will find us operating on all weekends, public holidays and most Fridays, weather permitting. Visitors are always welcome.

The VSA is organising a series of Tuesday evening winter lectures this year. Members from all Victorian clubs are welcome to attend.
Location: Lectures will be in the Church Hall at St Frances Church 326 Lonsdale St.
Entry to the lectures will be via the church car park in Little Lonsdale St (on the corner with Elizabeth St).
For church security reasons, the doors will only be open for a limited time, starting at 7:15 pm and closing at 7:30.
Note that car parking in the church car park is not available. Parking should be available in the evenings in the nearby streets.
All lectures will start at 7:35 pm and coffee and biscuits will be available at the end of thelectures.
Cooking time (after sweating onions, leeks, celery for a wee while): about 30 minutes
Can also be served cold. With cream on top it's extra tasty! We didn't puree this one - for a chunky winter mouth feel. Usually blast with a Bamix or similar.
Six oxygen-depleted glider pilots left GO2Altitude Hypoxia training at Moorabbin last night confidently well informed about how they would feel if they didn't use oxygen at 25,000 feet. Watch out for an upcoming article on this topic...
Below is a testing image from the GO2Altitude training system.
After a delayed start due to dodgy looking skies and lengthy discussion at the Committee meeting, Rolf, Gordon, Alf and Ailsa with towing help from Ian and Bob enjoyed a useful and instructive afternoon's flying on Saturday 10 May. Each of us flew 3 times in the K13, with the Pawnee towing Ailsa's first 2 of 3 launches before Bob brought the Super Cub over to continue towing for the rest of the day.
The forecast didn't look great, but the day developed into a great one. We had a good turnout, and even the late people (delayed due to minor car trouble) arrived before 9.30!!! Ales, Dejan, Frank, Ailsa, Alf, and Gordon all got two flights in. Ales also did his first 1 hour solo in VH-OWL and after a reminder radio call, he landed, grinning from ear to ear.
